Bishop’s work embraces the slowness and intimacy of an intuitive, material-driven process. Using a rigid heddle loom, she weaves colorful, patterned bands that branch into vine-like compositions. Each one growing, splitting, and stretching across organically shaped foundations, where they are hand-sewn into place. Her work draws parallels between natural overgrowth and human encroachment. She explores themes of reclamation and success through imagery reminiscent of vines overtaking abandoned structures or roads cutting through once untouched landscapes.

Bishop states “Color relationships are a foundational part of the weaving process, with each band exploring how contrasting hues and repeating patterns activate one another”. She shares “Rather than remaining confined to perpendicular lines and right angles, the bands grow into organic compositions, sometimes as simple as an oval, while others resemble intersecting roads, branching roots, or vines twisting and intertwining”.

Bishop holds a Bachelor of Arts in Painting, with a minor in Art History from the College of Charleston. A lifelong South Carolina artist, she has completed several residencies across the state, including with North Charleston, 701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia, the Gibbes Museum of Art, and, most recently, Texere in Oaxaca Mexico. In addition, her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout South Carolina and across the country.
